the update.

MIAU SA BULA RE! (for those who dont know, that is the greeting in our dreketi dialect.  in official fijian (bauan dialect) it is 'ni sa bula vinaka!')

wow. this is finally happening. (like my online photos) after 22 months, i have finally started my blog. haaaH! this is too funny.  but i've been writing in my journal/thoughtpad since day one, even during those emotion-filled days leading up to 27th of May 2006, the day i embarked on this peace corps journey.  so allow me to apologise (yall who know me know that im a spelling geek, so no, i did not misspell 'apologise'...it's the british spelling cuz fiji studies/uses the 'proper english' and not american english.  i jus dont like using the letter Z anymore, i think it's ugly) for taking forever to share my thoughts and experience with yall. but why do i even apologise? who will even read this other than myself? ha.

so now, for the actual update:  i think this is very timely because this is an actual update update, a somewhat important one.  so i officially have 5 months left of service, cuz before i left i told everybody i would be back aug/sept 2008 ... well, after completing one year i started to evaluate the time i spent in fiji so far and thought of the possibilities after my second year.  and after my awesome, liberating trip to samoa i narrowed it down to two options: 1) apply to extend transfer to PC Philippines, or 2) extend for another year in fiji, as a PCVL, volunteer leader and move to suva (the only "city" in fiji).

long story short, i decided to decline the invitation to join PC PI after i finish in fiji to move to suva to work as a PCVL.  to be honest, it was probably one of the hardest decisions i ever had to make because i have always wanted to go back to the PI to live and work and here i had my opportunity, but in the end (just a few days ago) i decided that working more closely with the organisation in suva would be best for me at this moment in my Life.

so i am extremely excited for this next challenge/opportunity and also looking forward to moving to suva! electricity. diversity. the mall (haha, not really, but a new fancy mhcc aka. the meeting point). and almost, i say almost, everything in amerikkka i could get in suva as well.  you know, civilisation and such. haha, joke lang.  i love dreketi and always will.  but it is time this bush boy moves on to the next step in Life.  more on this later...as well as archives later.

so i will see yall in aug 2009 ... faa that sounds so far away.  but hopefully, i will come home to visit before that. (possibly this june/july for janice/nino's wedding)
